Golf FAQs
What’s the difference between a pitching wedge and a sand wedge?
The short answer is about ten degrees of loft. The long answer is that a pitching wedge can be used in a variety of situations whereas the sand wedge is almost exclusively relegated to the task of getting your ball out of a sand trap. A pitching wedge can be used for shots as long as 130 yards when you want the ball to stop on the point of impact. It can also be used for much shorter shots when chipped.
What is the proper stance for a golf swing?
The proper stance depends a lot on the type of shot you are attempting. For instance on a drive you want the ball slightly in front of your center, and you want your feet a few inches wider than shoulder width apart. For mid range iron shots you center the ball and stand with your feet shoulder width. For putting you narrow your stance further. Irrespective of what type of shot you are taking, you should position your body perpendicular to the intended direction of travel for the ball.
How many holes are there in a round of golf?
For casual play, a round is considered nine holes. Most courses have eighteen holes divided into a front nine and a back nine. For tournament play each round consists of all eighteen holes. Casual players have been known to play all eighteen with a meal break in between the front and back nine.
